In March 2025, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified automotive gasoline as a Group-1 human carcinogen, confirming it causes bladder cancer and acute myeloid leukaemia in adults. Exposure can occur during refuelling through vapour inhalation and skin contact, reinforcing the need for visible warnings and suitable PPE at the point of contact.
