EU-Commission - EU Classification Labelling & Packaging (CLP) Regulation - 2024 update to hazard labelling 20th November 2024 - published in the EU Official Journal 10th December 2024 - enters into force |
While the labels for hazardous chemicals must already be compliant to both the GB CLP and EU CLP (since 1st June 2017 for hazardous mixtures already on the market), Annex-II (Special rules for labelling and packaging of certain substances and mixtures) of the EU CLP 2024 update includes additional context for fuel stations:
- "For a substance or a mixture supplied at a filling station and directly pumped into a receptacle that forms an integral part of a vehicle and from where the substance or mixture is normally not intended to be removed, the label elements referred to in Article 17 shall be provided on a visible place on the respective pump."
Why the 2024 update to the EU CLP?
The EU-Commission recognised "insufficient protection and suboptimal communication to consumers of hazardous products." Fuel station operators: Please contact our experts directly to learn about the display options available. CLP labels can be shown to consumers within your existing nozzle display units (i.e. most units available are big enough to display the content required by CLP Article 17).
However, if your CLP labels are missing or so far overlooked, they are quick to implement. While CLP labels can be shown in any nozzle display unit, GripHero's CLP (Article 17) Hazard Labels enable quick, easy and inexpensive compliance to both the GB CLP and EU CLP requirements.

GripHero : By far, the world's cheapest (and most eco-friendly) Category-II Anti-Static PPE
Wherever you are in the World, we're ready to help.
GripHero uniquely enables full compliance to all fuel handling regulations and consumer safety laws. In the UK, Ireland and Northern Ireland; such as your fuel Safety Data Sheets, CoSHH Regulation, CLP Regulation, General Product Safety Regulation, PPE Regulation, DSEAR, H&S At Work Act, Occupiers Liability Act and others. In the USA, the key Consumer Safety Law referencing the handling of fuels is the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (part of the Consumer Product Safety Commission). These Consumer Safety Laws are very specific about the mandatory obligations to warn, inform, instruct and protect consumers. Because Petrol/Gasoline contains four Category-1 hazards, there are also additional regulatory requirements above and beyond the requirements for diesel. |
Why is this important?
Do you know the detailed wording of these regulations and laws? As seen from an increasing number of fuel exposure claims, law firms do. The precedent for these has been set (now evidenced in the public domain with large claims going to court). It is extremely likely your fuel stations are not yet compliant, exposed to these claims, and possibly with significant implications to your insurance cover. Referenced as the benchmark for best-practice customer safety and uniquely enabling full compliance - GripHero is very quick, easy and low-cost to achieve the compliance you need, safeguard against fuel handling injury claims and maintain full and valid petrol station insurance. What is the scope of risk to fuel stations? Fuel stations (globally) are inviting consumers onto their premises to handle a extremely flammable Category-1 carcinogenic and mutagenic mixture, most without regulation-compliant signage (i.e. clear and highly visible hazard signage with official labels warning and informing consumers of the hazards, and instructing them to use the protection provided at the point of contact), and point-of-contact ATEX Safety-Gloves (Category-2 PPE) available for consumers directly within the ATEX fuel zone... warning, informing, instructing and protecting consumers, thereby reducing the exposure to the hazards to "as low as reasonably practicable". |

ATEX Safety-Glove dispensers Introducing GripHero-3 New for 2024, the GripHero-3 design of nozzle-mounted dispenser fits onto your new or old fuel nozzles. All dispensers will now come with hazard labels compliant with your fuel handling regulations and consumer safety laws, including:
The EU CLP Regulation has also been updated in 2024 (coming into force on 10th December 2024) to tighten and strengthen both the communication and protection of consumers, these are mandatory laws to warn, inform, instruct & protect consumers at the point of contact when handling hazardous substances and mixtures. They all refer back to the United Nations' (UN) Globally Harmonised System (GHS) for labelling hazardous chemicals. The GHS is the UN standard to ensure that all hazardous products and chemicals display official and globally recognised hazard label content, wherever they are sold within the United Nations territories. The fuel station will be selling fuel to consumers illegally without the very specific content required on these labels. The 2024 EU CLP update also brings additional clarification and restrictions for advertisements and supplemental information on CLP labels. Please contact us directly for more details. Specifically in the UK/EU, all nozzle labels will also comply with the fuel-grade labelling directive EN-16942. How do you refill GripHero with ATEX-gloves? |

Wow your customers and stakeholders with a 94% reduction in the CO2 footprint of your hand-protection.
We're proud to introduce to our ATEX Safety-Glove range a brand new material made entirely from 100% recycled plastics (our all new 'R100 protection').
With over 2 years of development and testing, we've taken the time to create a protection option with the lowest CO2 footprint in the world. The resin for R100 cartridges is produced from the ‘open‐loop’ recycling of plastics (which includes items such as plastic bottles, plastic bags, plastic glove off‐cuts, plastic packaging and containers) and fully complies with and exceeds the EU Single Use Plastics Directive. Did you know... the equivalent of over 600 plastic water bottles (500ml size) is recycled to make 1 case of GripHero R100 ATEX Safety-Glove cartridges. Rather than these bottles being discarded to waste or littering our environment and oceans, they fulfil a new purpose – with each case of R100 cartridges protecting the health and wellbeing of 8,500 motorists from the bacteria, viruses and carcinogens present on fuel nozzles at petrol stations. GripHero has completed the ‘hard work’ associated with recycling (collection, storage, transit, sorting, washing, melting, reprocessing, reproduction) for you at the outset. By using this product, all CO2 footprint benefits associated with recycling and reusing plastics are attributed to your operations. Our R100 ATEX Safety-Gloves have been independently verified to reduce your CO2 footprint compared with standard gloves by over 87%, piece‐for-piece. R100 cartridges emit just 7.22kg CO2e per 10,000 protectors, compared to over 59kg CO2e per 10,000 standard gloves. However, when also accounting for the increased efficiency in dispensing GripHero ATEX Safety-Gloves, the CO2 footprint reduces by over 94% to almost no CO2 footprint at all. Importantly, this massive CO2 reduction is at the first, most hands-on and most visible point of contact throughout the whole customer journey. A point to keep in mind - motorists are unlikely to be aware of your sustainability efforts 'upstream' and behind the scenes, but they do have full visibility and awareness of how they are being protected at the pumps. This element of the customer experience is easy to get right. Please contact us for details. |
